Week 11 Recap

Week 11 Recap

This weekend was League Championship Weekend in Philadelphia, at least in the AAAA and AAA Divisions.  The AA divisions were decided a couple weeks ago.  There were some surprises, and some real good games around the city.  We’ll recap all of the playoff games, by division.

Philadelphia Catholic League.
AAAA Division
La Salle 35 - Roman Catholic 16
La Salle continued its march toward defending their state championship by handling Roman by a score of 35-16.  Roman had some defensive heroics, and a very balanced attack, but it wasn’t enough as the Explorers rolled up 305 yards of offense to clinch a berth in the AAAA District championship game against Northeast, next Saturday.

AAA
Archbishop Wood 24 - Cardinal O'Hara 7
Archbishop Wood, for the second time in three weeks, handed Cardinal O’Hara a loss.  The first was in the finale of the regular season, while this one came in season ending fashion for the Lions.  Wood’s off-season acquisition, Desmon Peoples, proved to be too much for O’Hara, as he ran for 173 yards on 29 carries, while scoring 3 all three Wood touchdowns.  The Wood defense held the O’Hara rushing game to -12 yards (yes, that’s less than zero).  O’Hara’s passing game did manage 160 and one touchdown, but it wasn’t enough as the Vikings stifled the Lions for most of this game.

Philadelphia Public League
AAAA Division
Northeast 13 - Washington 6
For the first time in 27 years, Northeast can be called Public League Champs.  In a defensive battle, Northeast capitalized on a blocked punt deep in the Washington zone to punch in a touchdown in the second quarter, and a fake field goal attempt in the fourth quarter to win this game 13-6.

AAA Division
Dobbins 13 - Roxborough 12
Dobbins used 13 fourth quarter points to get out of Northeast High’s stadium with a 13-12 win.   This was only Dobbins’ second single digit win of the year.  Their first was against, you guessed it, Roxborough, in week five of the regular season.  Dobbins has the difficult task of taking on Archbishop Wood in the District championship game next week.

State Playoffs
AA Sub-Regional Semi-Finals
West Catholic 56 - Del-Val 8
West Catholic had nearly 500 yards of total offense as they scored early and often against the hapless Del-Val team, as they won going away 56-8.  This may have been the biggest mis-match of all of the District 12 playoffs this weekend.

Bok 46 - Comm Tech 7
Bok, for the second time this season (the first against IMHOTEP), avenged their only regular season losses in nearly a decade, as they pounded Comm Tech 46-7.  Bok will meet West Catholic in the District 1/12 subregional final next week.

District 12 AAA Championship - Wood 44 - Dobbins 7
