In District 12, Thanksgiving week is Rivalry week. Some of these games go back many years, while others are relatively new. Some continue, some may change in the future, and some are gone forever. But, no matter what team you follow, there's a good chance that your team played on Thanksgiving Day or Thanksgiving Eve. As a matter of fact, 32 of the district's 43 teams played this weekend. Most of the games were memorable, while others were downright forgettable. In any event, most of these games are more about meeting up with old friends, and sharing memories of days gone by. It's truly a great football weekend, despite the fact that these games mean nothing in the big scope of things, other than, maybe, neighborhood bragging rights.
My Picks
Last week, I broke the Thanksgiving weekend games into three categories. In my "Sure Bets" section, I went 6 - 0. In the "Most Likely", I went 4-1, with my only loss coming via the King 15 - 14 win over Germantown. This Germantown loss came via the first, and only, PAT kick for King all season. That's why this game was a "most likely", as you just can't be 100% certain of the outcome. My third category was the "Toss Up" section. These games are toss ups because anything can happen, and neither team has an outright advantage. As a matter of fact, five of the six games in my "toss up" category were won by an average of about 5 points. The only lopsided score in this one was Overbrook's 46-20 win over West Philly.

Next Week
So, overall, I went 13-4, which is not bad, considering those 4 losses were by a combined total of 21 points. From here on out, it'll be all PIAA playoffs, with only three teams still in the hunt for the State titles. La Salle, defending AAAA champs, will play the winner of the District 11 AAAA champ (Easton or Whitehall). District 12 AAA and AA champs, Archbishop Wood and West Catholic, respectively, will try to avenge their semi-final loses from 2009 with a run through the playoffs. The road will be tough for both, but like they say, that's why you have to play the games.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend!
