During my travels this past weekend, I caught 4 games,
including 3 from District 12. Below is a
recap of the three D12 games that I saw. It was a real busy weekend, but what better way to spend it than watching high school football in Philadelphia.
Fels 44 – Olney 22 (at Northeast HS)
This game ended with 2:00 remaining, as fights broke out
after Fels scored their final touchdown to make the score 44-22. For all intents and purposes, this game
decided the two playoff teams from this division, but just not mathematically yet. I
recorded the stats for this one, and I
wrote a report on TedSilary.com
West Catholic 35 – McDevitt 14 (at Cheltenham
HS)
This game started off in a very competitive manner, with
McDevitt taking a 7-6 lead into the halftime locker. But, the second half was all West Catholic,
who scored two touchdowns in each of the final two quarters. McDevitt only
could manage a touchdown very late in the game. Game note:
The second half featured shared QB duties for West. Jaleel Reed started the second half for West,
but time was almost equally split between Reed and regular starter, Anthony Reid.
Reed played mainly because he’s more of
a running QB (3 rushes, 31 yards), only attempting 1 pass, which was picked off
by McDevitt. The outcome of this game
pretty much solidifies West as, once again, the team to beat at the AA level.
Judge at Roman (at Northeast HS)
Judge started this game off big, with a long opening kickoff
return to about the Roman 40, followed by a quick touchdown on the first play
of the game. Early on, it looked like it
was going to be a long day for the Cahillites, but their patience, and good
defense (RC had three defensive touchdown) lead the way in this 34-14 blowout
of the Crusaders. With this win, Roman
gets a firm hold on second place in the division, pending the outcome of the La
Salle/Judge game next week.
The next three weeks should give us some real good match-ups. Hopefully, I'll get to see many of them. I hope you'll be out there watching too. I'm really looking forward to the playoffs this year.
