Week 5 Recap - Week 6 Picks

Week 5 Recap
I ended up seeing 3 District 12 games last weekend.  I did the stats for the Central/Mastbaum game.  It was a fairly exciting game, but with Mastbaum not having much offense outside of the Stone-Davis brothers, Central prevailed in the end.  I hung around NE HS to catch the Judge/Prep game.  This game was a lot more exciting than the early game, with Judge scoring a late TD to snatch victory from Prep, who just wouldn't go away.  But, the most exciting game was the Wood/Friendship Collegiate Academy game, which had Wood coming back from a 9 point deficit in the last 2 minutes of the game, scoring the winning point on an extra point with no time left on the clock.  Seeing that was definitely worth the drive up to Doylestown.

How we did in Week 5
Week 5, Games to Watch 3-1  .750
Week 5, All Picks : 15-8  .652
Season, Overall Games to Watch: 14-6 .700
Season Record: 100 - 31  .763

Week 6
After looking at the schedule for week 6, I determined that there's not a lot of really good "games to watch" this week.  Well, the Judge at Roman game looks to be the best, and most intriquing game this week.  I was almost tempted to list the Southern/Edison game, as both teams are pretty bad and both come into this game at 0-5.  But, that would be tanamount to slowing down to watch the rescue workers pull the bodies out of the 5 car pile up on the highway.

Week 6 - Games to Watch

Judge at Roman - It's expected that this game will decide which team finishes second to La Salle in 2010.  No disrespect to either of these teams, but I just don't see either of them beating La Salle down the stretch, or in the playoffs.  Roman will have their work cut out for them this week, as Judge brings a double threat of pass and run into this game.  Yes, Roman has been pretty good (until the La Salle game) against the run, but Roman has had some difficulty defending against the pass, and the "big play".  In five games, the Cahillites have given up 5 TD passes of 35yds or more and 3 rushing TDs of 40yds or more.  What this means is that they have a tendency to give up the "big play".  Judge is the type of team that can come up with a big play.  I expect this game to be a high scoring affair.
Pick: Judge 31 - Roman 28

Frankford at Overbrook - This normally wouldn't be a game to watch, but with Frankford sitting at 1-2 in league play, this game could detemine if the Pioneers make or miss the playoffs.  The regular season is only 6 weeks long, and Frankford has to win, in my opinion, at least 2 of their remaining 3 to secure one of the two playoff spots left, after Washington and Northeast.  Overbrook, like Frankford, has lost to both Northeast and Washington, so this is a game that they also need to stay in the playoff hunt.
Pick: Frankford 24 - Overbrook 20

West Catholic at McDevitt - Now, the past couple of seasons, this would be THE game to watch in the PCL AA division.  And, no disrepect to McDevitt, but West is going to walk through the AA division this year.  This game is only on the list of "games to watch" because there really aren't many good games scheduled this week.
Pick: West Catholic 35 - McDevitt 7

Bok at Comm Tech - This game is intriquing to me.  Bok, who had their 8+ year regular season winning streak halted earlier this season, is on a mission to reclaim the top of the heap in the Pub AA.  Comm Tech, like Bok, is sitting on a 3-1 league record.  Tech is looking to gain respect in the division, which may be the most competitive of the city divisions.  With a week off, we'll see this weekend if Comm Tech is ready to play with the big boys, or if they are just a flash in the pan.
Pick: Bok 35 - Comm Tech 13
