Possible, if Improbable, Playoff Scenarios

Possible, But Not Probable Scenarios in the PCL

Just for fun, at this time of year, I like to see all of the possible playoff scenarios.  I saw "possible", but all of these are really not probable.  But, like I said, it's just for fun.  I have listed some of these improbable scenarios, along with how some teams could clinch those valuable final playoff spots in the PCL

Improbable Scenario #1
Lansdale clinches PCL AA Division

Improbable Scenario #2
McDevitt out, Lansdale Catholic in

Improbable Scenario #3
Prep clinches PCL  AAAA Division

Improbable Scenario #4
Judge misses playoffs

Improbable Scenario #5
Ryan makes playoffs

The only playoff spots that have yet to be decided in the city are in the Catholic League.  There is one spot remaining to be decided in both the AAAA and AA divisions.  Here's each remaining team's road to the playoffs for each team

AAAA
Three of the four playoff spots have been decided.  The fourth and final playoff spot will be determined by the outcome of the Judge/Ryan game.
1. Judge wins and they are in and Ryan is out
2. Ryan wins and they are in and Judge is out

AA
West Catholic has clinched one of the two playoff spots in this division.  The final spot will be determined in week 9.  It will be between Bishop McDevitt and Lansdale Catholic.  Neumann-Goretti has been eliminated. Even in a three-way tie, Neumann-Goretti cannot jump ahead of both Lansdale Catholic and Bishop McDevitt.
1. McDevitt gets second place if:
    - McDevitt wins and Lansdale Catholic Loses
2. Lansdale Catholic wins the division if:
    - Lansdale Catholic beats West Catholic and Bishop McDevitt loses, OR
    - Lansdale Catholic wins by 9 or more, regardless of the outcome of the McDevitt/Neumann game.
    - Note:  In the first scenario, LC and WC tie for first.  LC wins first by head-to-head win.  In the second scenario, a three-way tie would be created, with LC winning the first tie-breaker.  WC would get second.
3. Lansdale Catholic gets second place if:
     - Lose to West Catholic and McDevitt loses to Neumann-Goretti by 10 or more
     - Note: This would cause a three-way tie for second between LC, BM and N-G.  Lansdale Catholic would get second by virtue of the first tie-breaker.  N-G would get second by virtue of their win over BM.  BM would finish fourth.

So, there you have it.  This is what the regular season comes down to for 2010.  The playoffs, which begin in week 10 will be a whole different story.  This is the best time of the year.
