After Week 7, several playoff spots in the 7 city divisions have been secured. At the top of this page, we have a new link to the playoff brackets. The Pub AA playoffs have been set for week 8, with most of the remaining spots being decided this week. Below, I will explain, by division, where the teams stand, and the chances for some teams to make it into the playoffs for 2010.
Pub AA
Playoffs are set:
Bok at Del-Val (Gratz)
Comm Tech at IMHOTEP
Pub AAA
Dobbins has clinched the division title
Teams still in the hunt:
Gratz (4-1) - The incredible sinking ship. Seems to be getting worse as the season goes on, despite their record of 4-1 in league play and 6-1 overall. Will play contenders Roxborough and West Philly the next two weeks. One win is all that is needed for the Bulldogs. The question is.....Will they get it?
Roxborough (3-2) - Wins over either Gratz or King should be enough.
King (3-2) - Wins over Boys Latin or Roxborough should be enough.
West Philly (2-3) - Will need to beat both Franklin and Gratz to make it.
Franklin (2-3) - Will need to beat both West Philly and University City to make it.
Boys' Latin (1-4) - Longshot, but playing better the past two weeks.
University City has been eliminated
This division could have several teams with the same record, which means some tie-breakers may kick in. But, who really knows with these guys.
Pub AAAA
All of the playoff teams have been set.
Gold Division (4 teams qualify):
Washington and Northeast has clinched the top two spots, which means they will get a bye in the first round. These two teams play each other this week, with the outcome determining the division winner.
Frankford has clinched third place, or the top seed in the first round. They will play the loser of the Furness/Fels game in the first round.
Bartram's clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in the Gold division. The Maroon Wave will play the winner of the Furness/Fels game in the first round.
Silver Division (2 teams qualify):
Fels and Furness have locked up the only two playoff spots from this division. These two teams play this week. The winner gets Bartram in the first round, while the loser gets Frankford.
PCL AA
This division will only send two teams to the playoffs. The only thing that has been determined so far is that Conwell-Egan will not be one of those two teams. A West Catholic win over Neumann-Goretti in week 8 will clinch the division for the Burrs. The second spot will most likely go to McDevitt, who has Conwell-Egan and Neumann-Goretti remaining on their schedule. So, unless the Lancers have a total collapse, expect to see them in the PCL AA championship game against West Catholic.
PCL AAA
Since all four teams make the playoffs, the regular season is just for playoff seeding and a preview for the playoffs. More on this division next week.
PCL AAAA
La Salle is far and away the best team in the city. A win against Ryan, and a Prep loss to Roman, in week 8, will clinch the division for the Explorers. This scenario will also give Roman second place. Judge and Prep will most likely finished third and fourth, setting up a first round playoff match up of La Salle v Prep and Roman v Judge. If Prep can beat Roman this week, it would cause a potential three-way tie for second. More on that next week.
