Week 3 Picks

Week 3
Well, sports fans, week 2 in District 12 was an interesting one.  We’re still trying to figure out who are the good teams, the bad teams and the ugly.  La Salle and Prep, who led the rankings in week 2 both lost.  La Salle, by virtue of their close loss to Bergen Catholic, will hold on to their top ranking.  Prep, which was soundly thumped by St Peter’s, dropped to 9th.  Bonner, which had a lot of high expectations entering the 2010 campaign, was silenced by West Catholic.  In the Pub, we found out who the top dog is, as Washington soundly defeated Frankford.  And, we’ll find out this week if IMHOTEP can end Bok’s league game winning streak.

We didn’t do so bad picking games, but we thought either Prep or La Salle would have been able to win.

Here’s how we did:
Week 2, Games to Watch: 4-0 1.000
Week 2, Overall: 19 -6 .760
Season, Games to Watch: 6-2 .750
Season Record: 39 – 15 .722

Week 3 - Games to Watch

La Salle v West Catholic – This game, is by far, the most intriguing of the games in Week 2.  Both teams are coming into the game with 1-1 overall records.  Both teams are the top ranked team in their respective divisions.  It also pits two of the top teams in SEPA against one another.
Pick: La Salle 28 – West Catholic 14

St Joe Prep v North Penn – After Prep’s big loss to St Peter’s last week, the Hawks will travel up to Lansdale to play perennial power, North Penn. The Knights lost in week 1 to La Salle, so they may want some revenge against the city teams.  Prep is the team that they will want to take their vengeance out on.  This game should tell us if Prep is still a top team, or if they have finally been moved into the category of “just another PCL team”.
Pick: North Penn 24 – Prep 21

Bishop McDevitt v Archbishop Carroll – The Lancers came into the season with high expectations.  Those expectations are still there, but after getting beat neighborhood rival, Cheltenham, some questions now surround their season.  Carroll, a former AA team which moved up to AAA this year, have two big wins under their belts, averaging over 250yards/game on the ground.  This game will determine which of these teams is a contender, and which is a pretender.
Pick: Carroll 24 – McDevitt 21

Bok v IMHOTEP – This league game of Pub AA teams could very well be a preview of the Pub championship game.  Both teams are 2-0, with impressive and lopsided wins.  Bok hasn’t lost a league game in almost a decade, and IMHOTEP has the best chance at ending that streak this week.  Bok has averaged over 240/yards per game on the ground, while IMHOTEP has averaged over 180/yds per game in the air.  It’s going to come down to defense in this one.  Who can make the big stops.  As far as AA games are concerned, none are bigger in week 3 than this one.
Pick: Bok 18 – IMHOTEP 12
