The 2010 Season Is Almost Here

In January, I moved to Maryland for work. I still have my house in Philly, and I travel back there every weekend. It's good thing that most high school football games are on the weekend, because I plan to once again post rankings, as I see them, in Philadelphia high school football. I'm hoping to be back in Philly full time before the season starts, but if I don't, I'll still be posting once or twice a week with my thoughts and rankings.

Last season ended on a bitter sweet note. I have helped North Catholic's football team for the past six seasons. And, as you know, North Catholic is no longer open. That, and the fact that I was out of work for a bit during football season, made me lose some of my passion for this blog. But, I no longer have a horse in the race, so I won't worry about ranking "my school" higher or lower than they should be. I will still call them as I see them, and I really don't care what anyone thinks about my rankings and/or my commentary. This is purely therapy for me, and hopefully something worth reading for you.

We'll start out this season sometime in July or August, as I critique the upcoming schedules of the teams, as well as the new alignments in both the Catholic and Public Leagues. I tend to occasionally piss people off, but I do try to be as fair as possible. I'll preview the games that I believe are worth previewing and, starting in week 2, I'll begin posting rankings in each classification. I know everybody and their brother list their top 10 for the upcoming season, but I
don't. This is high school football, and you really can't determine who is better until they play, at least, one game. My personal belief is that anyone who puts up a ranking during the preseason is a nitwit. But, what do I know?

Mike,

I am a little late on this comment but hear go's. I can't believe that North is closed. I am Frankford who saw his first North/Frankford game in 1961. Since that time I have not missed the North/Frankford Thanksgiving Game with the exception of my military time.

There will never be another game like it. Those games classics!!!!

This season seems empty without North.

Thanks for the comment, Al. I have ties to both schools. You see, my four older siblings (3 brothers and a sister) are all Frankford grads. I graduated from North. Although, I'm the only one who was fortunate enough to play in the North/Frankford game (at the old Temple Stadium). I'm sure it'll hit me on Thanksgiving morning the most. I mean, I won't even know what to do with myself between 6:00am and 1:00pm. No more calls from my brothers when Frankford wins. No more calls to my brothers when North wins. I know you feel the pain, but it's nothing compared to the pain that is felt by us North guys.

Thanks again for visiting and posting a comment.
