Week 7 Recap - Rankings Week 8

Recap of Week 7

There were two games last week that really surprised us at the office. The first was Judge's 23-14 loss to Roman. We didn't see that one coming. It really puts Judge's playoff hopes in jeopardy. The other was the non-league contest between McDevitt and Lansdale Catholic. Lansdale was 0-6 entering this game, and McDevitt was 6-0. But Lansdale's consistent ball control offense overruled the Lancers, 36-27. In our pick 'em games, we went 3-1 for week 7, which brings us to a season total of 20-8.

Games to Watch - Week 8

O'Hara at St Joseph Prep - Sat 7:00PM (Plymouth-Whitemarsh)
This game looks better on paper than it does in real life. O'hara is sporting a 7-0 record and Prep is 6-1,with their only loss being to the #1 rated team in Eastern PA (North Penn). After talking it over with the staff, we really haven't seen this O'Hara team tested. But, tested is what they will be this week. We're still not sure if Corey Brown will make an appearance in this game for O'Hara, but it really doesn't matter.
Our Pick: Prep 28 - O'Hara 14

Northeast at Frankford - Friday 3:00PM
At the beginning of this season, this looked like a perfect match up for a second place game. But, with Northeast knocking off Washington earlier, and Frankford stumbling against both Washington and Bartram, the Pioneers are looking to capture third place. But, what does that do for them? It gives them a first round playoff game against the Eagles of Washington. Frankford will definitely have to earn their bones this playoff season. To win the Pub, they'll have to knock off both Washington and Northeast. Very tall order for them.
Our Pick: Northeast 19 - Frankford 14

Conwell-Egan at Northeast Catholic - Sat 1:00PM (Frankford)
This is a rematch of the PCL semi-final game from 2008, in which Conwell-Egan won. With the North/Frankford game most likely moving to a new venue this year, this will be the last game for North Catholic at Frankford stadium. North needs this win to finish in the first two spots (Wood next week), and Conwell-Egan can all but tie up second place in the division with a win.
Our Pick: North Catholic 27 - Conwell-Egan 13

West Catholic at Bishop McDevitt - Sat, 7:00PM (Cheltenham)
This game is for all the marbles in the PCL AA division. The winner will be the division champ, and the loser will have to settle for second. McDevitt had a big let down last week in a non-league contest with Lansdale Catholic, but West is still rolling along.
Our Pick: West Catholic 42 - Bishop McDevitt 14.

District 12 - Top Ten
1. St Joseph Prep (5-1, 3-0) (1) Last Week: Beat Ryan 55-7 - Not much to say here other than...wait until the playoffs, where the real fireworks will happen. Prep is by no means, a run away favorite to win the AAAA title in District 12. As a matter of fact, there are, at least 4 other teams who could give them a run for the money.

2. LaSalle (6-1, 3-1) (2). Last Week: Beat Judge 28-10 - LaSalle is once again healthy, as they showed last week by dismantling Judge. Look for LaSalle to run the board as the look toward the playoffs and a re-match with Prep.

3. Cardinal O'Hara (7-0, 3-0) (3). Last Week: Beat Roman 13-0 - Yes, O'Hara is 6-0 going into week 7, but they have yet to play one of the "Big 3" in the PCL (Prep, LaSalle, Judge). The only reason they moved up a spot is that they are 6-0. This will be the last of the "cream puff" part of their schedule, before taking on Prep, Judge and LaSalle to end the season. A lot can happen between now and week 10.

4. Archbishop Wood (5-2, 2-0) (5) Last Week: Beat Neumann-Goretti 34-7 - The Vikings seem to be getting their stride back, but they play a very tough Conwell-Egan team this week, which may decide the division championship. We fully expect Wood to be around come the PCL championship game.

5. West Catholic (5-2, 3-0) (6). Last Week: Beat Kennedy-Kenrick 62-0 - It seems as though the Burrs didn't like losing to Wood in week 5, so they took it out on the hapless Kennedy-Kenrick team. The expectation is that the division will come down to whether or not McDevitt is up to the task. But, that game will have to wait a couple of week.

6. Northeast (4-2, 3-0) (7). Last Week: Beat Overbrook 33-7 - The Vikings are idle this week, awaiting their showdown with Frankford next week. It appears as though, with only one league game remaining, that Northeast has clinched the division title. But, who knows anymore with the way the Pub decides things like that.

7. Washington (5-2, 3-1) (8). Last Week: Beat Frankford 28-6 - Washington will be looking to make a statement this week and show the city that the defending Distirct 12 AAAA champ is still a force to be reckoned with, as they take on #9 Bartram.

8. Roman Catholic (3-4, 2-1) (NR). The Cahillites earned their way into the top ten with a quality win over Father Judge. But, Roman hasn't played Prep or LaSalle yet. They are in a battle for the fourth and final spot in the PCL AAAA playoffs, and they made great strides with their win last week.

9. Father Judge (4-3, 2-2) (4). Last Week: Lost to LaSalle 28-10 - The Crusaders are a tough team this year, entering week 7 with a 4-2 record. Their only two losses were to the top 2 teams on this list. Look for them to be right in the thick of things when the dust settles at the end of the season.

10. Bok (7-0, 4-0) (NR) - Bok seems to sweep through their Pub schedule every year. They begin the playoffs this week against a Franklin team that they beat last week 34-6, so we don't expect them to have a problem until the District championship game.

Under Consideration: Bartram, Conwell-Egan, Frankford, North Catholic
