Week 6 Rankings

With all of the upsets and unexpected finishes in Week 5, week six’s top ten had a few teams changing spots. The top two (Prep, LaSalle) held on to their spots, but three teams (West Catholic, Washington, Frankford) dropped significantly. Teams breaking into our top ten were Northeast (7), Bartram (9) and Roman (10). Expect to see some more changes after this week.

District 12 Top Ten (team, record, previous rank)
1. St Joseph Prep (4-1, 2-0) (1). Last Week: Beat Judge 28-21 – The Hawks had a scare in their game with Father Judge, but then again, that team has had 5 straight weeks of tough games. They get an easy week in the 6th week, against a subpar Archbishop Ryan team.
2. LaSalle (4-1, 1-1) (2). Last Week: Beat Ryan 38-0 – LaSalle had what amounted to be a break week by beating up on Ryan. But, this week, they have #3 Father Judge, who is coming off a disappointing close game loss to #1 Prep in week 5. This Father Judge team is looking to capture one of the top two playoff spots, but with LaSalle finally back to running on all cylinders, the winner of this game should capture the #2 spot for several weeks.
3. Father Judge (4-1, 1-1) (5). Last Week: Lost to Prep 28-21 – This Judge team is confident and they believe they can get back to the PCL championship game and win it. Their near miss against Prep enabled this team to leap over O’Hara into the #3 spot.
4. Cardinal O’Hara (5-0, 1-0) (4). Last Week: Beat Chester 37-0 - We’re still waiting for O’Hara to play one of the big three of the PCL AAAA division. Once they do, we’ll finally get a chance to see just how good this team really is. Until that time, they’ll be stuck at #4.
5. Archbishop Wood – (3-2, 0-0) (8). Last Week: Beat West Catholic 28-21 – The Vikings may have started off slow, but they seem to have hit their stride with three straight wins, including last week’s win against a formidable West Catholic team (previously Ranked #3).
6. West Catholic – (3-2, 1-0) (3). Last Week: Lost to Wood 28-21. – The Burrs aren’t the same team as 2008, but they are still a fine club and are expected to go deep in the state playoffs. The loss to Wood was unexpected by most people, causing their drop by 4 spots in this poll.
7. Northeast – (3-2, 2-0) (NR). Last Week: Beat Washington 14-12. - The Vikings are poised to capture their first division title since 2001. But, they still need to get by Overbrook and Frankford to do so. For the time being, the Vikings have earned the #7 spot in this ranking.
8. Washington – (3-2, 1-1) (6). Last Week: Lost to Northeast 14-12. – The Eagles dropped an unexpected egg this past weekend, losing to neighborhood rival, Northeast in a close 14-12 game. Washington will have to regroup this week as they take on perennial power, Frankford.
9. Bartram – (4-1, 1-1) (NR). Last Week: Beat Frankford 14-6. – The Maroon Wave shocked many last week with their win over Frankford. This week, they will play a non-league game against AAA team, Mastbaum, while the rest of the division plays for playoff spots.
10. Roman – (2-3, 1-0). This Roman team just doesn’t seem to go away. They are hanging around, mainly due to their win over an ever improving Bonner team. But, this ranking may be short-lived, as the Cahillites take on #4 O’Hara this week. Win and they move up. Lose and you may not see them again in this poll.

Under Consideration (alphabetically): Bishop McDevitt, Conwell-Egan, Frankford, Monsignor Bonner, Northeast Catholic
